How Bible study can become more fun for you

Read your Bible and pray everyday if you want to grow.

Growing up as a child I outrightly disliked studying the Bible because I saw it as a boring chore which I had to do, then to make matters worse, I emphatically heard the importance of studying the Bible daily, yet I struggled for years. When it was time for my personal Bible study, I always found myself falling asleep. Obviously, I wanted to grow and I needed to discover more ways to enjoy Bible study. If you are in the same boat as me, you would surely find this post helpful.

Fun ways to study the Bible

  • Change your Bible: For me, I used to own a black plain Kings James Bible which I barely understood while reading and this made me so uninterested in reading the Bible. For my Bible study to become more enjoyable, I had to invest in a new type of Bible. Firstly, I got the International Children’s Bible which was filled with various colors and it was also easy for me to comprehend. Yes, King James Version is a great Bible for every believer, but I’ll recommend you go for HCSB (Holman Christian Standard Bible), the Amplified, and the International Children’s Bible when starting out Bible study as a beginner while using the King James Version as a reference Bible. Getting a study Bible to study also changed Bible study holistically for me because with my current study Bible I can write inside, color around it, and still doodle if I desire to.
  • Getting highlighters or colorful felt pens: There is something about seeing colors that could make you intrigued when reading the Bible. This is a tip while doing your Bible study, highlight whatever must have stood out to you, make notes with different colors on what you have learned, and equally color around your Bible. Do not be scared to get creative with all your highlighters while studying the Bible, this even makes Bible Study more fun for you as well.
  • Get a Bible study Journal: How can you study the Bible and not jot things down? It is called Bible study and not Bible reading for a reason. Get a notepad most specifically in the color you love most and take notes while studying the Bible. You could equally get sticky notes where you could make short notes to stick unto the Bible. Rather than using a plain jotter, you can invest in Bible study journals as well.
  • Create your Bible study area and decorate it: Your environment contributes largely to your mood, which is why a designated Bible Study area in your room could help make Bible Study way more enjoyable. Get a table and chair area or rug or whatever you love and decorate it enough to suit your aesthetic, trust me Bible study would become something you would always look forward to.
  • Reading music or white noise music: If you are a sleeping beauty like me (lol I feel sleepy at every slightest boredom), with the apple music or with YouTube, I search for reading music and white noise music and it makes my Bible Study sessions much more lively for me. With the reading music playing in the background, I am much more alert and I do not get bored at all. If you experience the same thing as me, why not try reading music.
  • Invite the Holy Spirit: If you decide to embark on Bible study without the Holy Spirit then you would not understand a thing and neither would you enjoy what you are doing. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you the word himself, and Bible study with the Holy Spirit always becomes more enlightening. Bible study with the Holy Spirit can never get boring because he is the best teacher ever. Pray and invite the Holy Spirit because he is the most important person you would need for your Bible study.

Cheers to a great Bible study session from now henceforth.
